The Hotel has an excellent reputation going back 30 years and has built up a strong core of repeat business, both commercial and leisure.

Belhaven has one of the best locations on the main street of Milford Haven, with views overlooking the Marina and the beautiful Waterway, where the movements of ships and yachts provide an endless source of attraction and business.

There is no question that the bulk of business these days is pre- booked, by email. But in addition, we are on the end of the line( rail , coach and road with the Atlantic / Irish Sea being only 9 miles away) and that brings additional business from people who cannot or do not wish to book in advance. And year round they come, to the open door where the lights are on, like moths to a flame, to fill the last room/s and keep the occupancy rates up.

Over the last few years the petro-chemical developments in the harbour have provided an almost inexhaustible supply of contractors seeking accommodation. But there has been a parallel influx of leisure people coming to Pembrokeshire who love the wild, open spaces ( the same area as Greater London with only 150,000 population) and the more rugged outdoor sports available eg shark-fishing, cliff-climbing, all the water sports, walking the Coastal Path and Preselli Hills, horse- riding/trekking, cycling, hang-gliding, microlites and twitching.
But, except for the purists, even they want somewhere to visit when it rains( and it can).
Since 2002, so many new visitor centres/attractions have opened, it is now difficult to decide which way to direct them.

Being so far west that we are on the Gulf Stream, means that we don't get the hottest of the summer weather, but we do tend to see the best of the winter, warm enough for palm trees, anyway. And even after being resident here so long, we still cannot believe how green it is.
The Eskimo are supposed to have 365 words for snow. Well, I think we could near match that with shades and tints of green. And there are wild flowers in bloom every month of the year.

Often Christmas Day is short-sleeve weather, and if we have snow, you can bet the rest of the UK is in trouble. So the walkers, twitchers, surfers, wind-surfers, photographers and artists come all the year round.

For those whose ambition is not catering The Joint Unitary Development Plan for Pembrokeshire -Adopted 2006 allows for suitable changes of use or redevelopment. See page 58.even though it is a Grade 2 Listed Building,as is most of this street. The property was built in 1797, but in 1851 it was split in two to make two houses, and that was when they had to instal the second set of stairs( now our INTERNAL fire-escape) and the second front door(No.
28). We bought No.29 first, and then two years later bought No.28 and re-joined them on the first and second floors by re-opening the doorways that had been boarded up. It could suit some-one to re-seal those doorways in order to have two houses once more.

Having now managed the business for 30 years, and also reached 3 score years & ten, with the chef, my wife, catching up quickly, we have decided to retire to a well earned rest.

It is a pity to be contemplating leaving in such exciting times, with the two LNG terminals still under construction, the new 2,000 MW gas-fired power station and Murco oil refinery's CoGen plant about to start, the new IBM research facility, the Bluestone Project about to open,
so much going on, but we feel it is time to hand the baton on.

Once we had both become pensioners, we tried to reduce the workload, by occasionally closing for a weekend and for the Christmas period. Nor, these days, do we open the restaurant to the public at all, instead of seven days a week. But this year notwithstanding, closing in total for 7 weeks, the net turnover should still be close to £100,000.

And that is with minimal bar takings, as so many of this year's guests work on oil or gas and are daily liable to random breath tests on site. So, their intake is severely restricted. But we can put up with that, when the occupancy rate is 80%.

During this year, we have installed a new L2 fire alarm system, to the satisfaction of the Fire Authority, and the associated works are now complete.

We have two Welsh Food Hygiene Awards for 2003 and 2005. Almost all our meat is from Welsh Hook Meat Centre, who unusually have their own abbatoir. And the only beef, we use, is from their Welsh Black cattle designated under Farm Assured British Beef & Lamb(FABBL).

The building has 5,040 square feet of floor area on 3 floors ie. ground floor, !st. and 2nd. There are 9 guest bedrooms, a very relaxing TV lounge on the first floor overlooking the Waterway, and a bar/dining room on the ground floor. Adjoining the dining room is the hot kitchen, cold kitchen, freezer room and laundry, with the boilerhouse/drying room above the laundry. Above the kitchens area is the Managers quarters.

The site is approx 7,300 square feet ie near enough one sixth of an acre, and these town sites were always 40 feet wide. So in the olden days, we would have been recognised as being "burghers" of the town.
